Our Mission, Purpose, and Beliefs
Our Mission as United Methodists is to…
Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World
Our Purpose at Memorial Church is to…
Be Ambassadors of Jesus Christ in Our Community
As United Methodists believe in the historic faith of the Christian church, as expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and other doctrines of the church. These include:
The Holy Trinity, three distinct but inseparable persons in community with one another, interacting with creation and humanity.
The Way of Salvation, undeserved and unearned grace as God’s gift to us, calling to us before we are aware of our need for redemption, forgiving us when we answer the call to faith, and working within us to create new people, seeking holiness of heart and life.
Revelation through scripture, tradition, reason and experience. All that is necessary for salvation is contained in the Bible. The traditions of the church add context to our faith through music, liturgy, sacraments and gathered wisdom. The orderly nature of creation assures us that the use of reason is also God’s gift to us, to further our faith and life. Our own experiences of God, as well as the experiences of others through the centuries, offer us glimpses of God’s holy nature and love.
The church as God’s beloved community, called to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ through acts of mercy and justice. As the body of Christ in the world, we are to continue his ministry of teaching, healing, feeding, forgiving, and restoring dignity and life to all people.
